How to cut gingerbread man cookies with the template
- Print the small or medium size at 100% and cut out one outline.
- Trace it onto card stock or a clean plastic lid and cut it out again. A stiff template lasts all season.
- Roll the dough about 5 mm (1/4 inch) thick on baking paper and chill it for 15 minutes.
- Lay the template on the dough and cut around it with a small, sharp knife. Lift away the dough between the figures.
- Bake on the same paper. Pipe the face and buttons with royal icing once the cookies are cool.
Ways to use it
- Cookie template: lay it on rolled dough and cut around it with a small, sharp knife. Chill the cut cookies for 15 minutes so they keep their shape.
- Coloring page: print the full-page size with the face and buttons.
- Disguise a gingerbread man: print the blank full-page outline and let kids dress it up with paper, glitter and yarn.
- Garland or gift tags: print the small size on card stock and punch a hole in each hand.
Disguise a gingerbread man
A favorite school project: kids get a blank gingerbread man and dress it up so the fox will not recognize it. Print the full-page blank outline on card stock and try one of these.
- Firefighter: a red paper helmet and a yellow coat.
- Astronaut: a foil suit and a round helmet cut from a paper cup.
- Ballerina: a tutu made from a cupcake liner.
- Snowman: cotton balls all over and a paper carrot nose.
- Pirate: an eye patch, a striped shirt and a paper sword.
- Superhero: a felt cape and a mask.
Questions
How big is a gingerbread man cookie?
Most are 8 to 12 cm (3 to 5 inches) tall. The small template is 7.5 cm and the medium is 11 cm, so both are classic cookie sizes.
Can I use the template as a cookie cutter?
Yes. Trace it onto card stock or a clean plastic lid and cut around it with a knife. For a real cutter, bend a strip of food-safe metal around the printed outline.
How do I print it at the right size?
Choose 100% or "Actual size" in the print dialog. The scale bar at the bottom of the page should measure exactly 5 cm, or 2 inches on US Letter.
Is the gingerbread man template free?
Yes. Every size and style downloads as a free PDF, with no sign-up.
